Meet Manlio and His Team
My journey as a scuba diving instructor began with a lifelong love for the ocean. Born in Palermo, Sicily, I grew up exploring the sea, competing in water sports, and chasing every challenge that kept me connected to the water. At 21, I took my first breath underwater, and I never looked back.
Since earning my PADI Pro certification in 2004, I’ve worked across the globe, from the coral-rich Red Sea to the remote reefs of Palau, guiding and teaching divers at every level. Along the way, I’ve taken on many roles, instructor, mentor, photographer, manager, and conservationist, each shaping the dive professional I am today.
Now based in Mahahual, Mexico, I partner with Takata Experience to focus on professional-level training while working alongside trusted collaborators in Playa del Carmen to deliver high-quality recreational scuba education. As the founder of The Dive Trainer, I’ve built a platform dedicated to high-level dive education, career development, and mentorship.
Whether in the ocean or the classroom, my goal is to share real experience, inspire growth, and help shape skilled, confident, and passionate divers. To support students from around the world, I teach in English, Spanish, French, and Italian.
Our Instructor in Playa del Carmen
I am Federico, a PADI dive instructor based in Playa del Carmen. My path into diving began with a strong connection to the sea and the decision to turn passion into a profession. After transitioning from a background in technology, I fully committed to ocean life, developing hands-on experience in equipment maintenance, dive operations, and teaching.
I was personally trained and mentored by Manlio, an experience that shaped my approach to scuba instruction and professional standards. Today, I focus on delivering clear, structured, and safety-oriented training, always with respect for the marine environment and the students I work with.

Our Team in Mahahual
Our Mahahual team is composed of highly qualified dive professionals who work together to deliver consistent, high-level training across all programs. Each instructor follows shared teaching protocols, safety standards, and evaluation criteria, ensuring students receive clear guidance, objective feedback, and professional preparation aligned with real dive operations. The team-based approach allows for close supervision, skill development, and mentorship throughout both recreational and professional training.
Why Train With Us
With more than 20 years of experience in the dive industry, our training is built on real-world practice, long-term mentorship, and a clear progression from recreational diver to dive professional. Led by a PADI Course Director and Silver Status Frequent Trainer, our programs focus on developing confident, capable divers and instructors, not just issuing certifications.
Training is delivered alongside a small, trusted team of instructors and collaborators, working with established PADI 5* IDC dive centers such as Takata Experience in Mahahual and Scuba Playa in Playa del Carmen. This structure allows us to offer high training standards, personal coaching, and professional-level exposure in real dive operations, whether you are starting your diving journey or advancing toward a career in the dive industry.

Training Philosophy
At The Dive Trainer, diving is more than a certification, it is a structured journey of learning, responsibility, and professional growth. Our training philosophy is built on three core principles: diving with competence, leading through example, and inspiring others through integrity and respect for the ocean.
We create an environment where divers are challenged to grow, develop confidence, and build long-term skills that extend beyond the water. Training goes beyond technical requirements, focusing on decision-making, communication, and real-world readiness, preparing students for both professional roles and personal development.
Our goal is to develop capable instructors and dive professionals who lead with integrity, mentor others, and understand their responsibility toward the marine environment. Through high training standards, personal coaching, and conservation awareness, we prepare divers to build sustainable, fulfilling careers in the dive industry.
Conservation in Action
Protecting the ocean is a core part of how we dive and how we teach. Through training, partnership, and hands-on participation, we encourage responsible diving practices that benefit both people and ecosystems. In Mahahual, we support the work of MARES Center, a local research and restoration organization dedicated to protecting marine biodiversity, restoring coastal ecosystems, and engaging the community in long-term stewardship efforts.
Our students have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful conservation programs that go beyond certifications — from reef monitoring and restoration activities to environmental education and citizen science projects that strengthen ties between divers and the environments they explore. We also support the PADI AWARE Foundation and its Dive Against Debris initiative, empowering divers to safely remove and report marine debris and contribute to a global dataset that informs real conservation research and action.
By integrating these practices into our training, we aim to cultivate professionals and recreational divers who not only dive with skill, but also with respect, awareness, and a commitment to protect what they love for generations to come.
